One app instead of five

The instruments you would find on a dashboard, a boat or a hiking watch, on one screen and on your wrist.

Speedometer

Big, clear speed in km/h, mph or knots, with top and average speed, a head-up display for the windscreen and a buzz when you pass a speed you set.

Compass

Magnetic or true north, a bearing lock, an arrow that points to a saved place, and the sun's rise and set bearings.

Altimeter and barometer

Barometric altitude that works indoors, on trains and in a plane cabin, a 48-hour pressure graph, and ski days with runs and vertical.

A map that needs no signal

Roads, railways, borders and towns built into the app. Import a GPX route and follow it, or see your track and marks with no data at all.

Marks and parking

Mark where you parked and walk back to it. Save places by name, address or coordinate in decimal, DMS, UTM or MGRS.

Trips and mileage

Record a drive, ride or walk with distance, moving time and climb, and keep a mileage log by purpose with your country's rate.

Anchor alarm

Drop the anchor, set the swing radius, and get woken if the boat drags, with the screen off.

Spirit level

Surface and edge modes in degrees or percent, zeroed on any surface you trust.

Apple Watch

Speed, heading and altitude on your wrist. Walks, hikes, runs and rides go to the Health app with their route.

See it

Dark, legible and calm, built for a glance at a dashboard, a deck or a trail.

Readings you can trust

An instrument is only useful if you know when to believe it.

Every number says where it came from. Satellites, the barometer, the magnetometer or your steps, labelled on the reading itself.
No guessing. In a tunnel the speed shows dashes until the satellites are back, instead of freezing on the last number.
Private by default. No account, no ads, no tracking. Your trips stay on your iPhone, or in your own iCloud if you turn on sync.

Free, with Pro when you want more

Every instrument is free and stays free. Pro is for people who keep records.

Common questions

Is Vane free?

Yes. The speedometer, compass, altimeter, spirit level, head-up display, offline map and trip recording are free, with no ads and no account. Vane Pro is optional and can be bought once or as a monthly or yearly subscription.

Does Vane work without internet or mobile data?

Yes. GPS needs no data, and Vane's map of roads, railways, borders and towns is built into the app, so speed, heading, altitude, position and the map all work offline.

Does Vane work on Apple Watch?

Yes. The Apple Watch app shows speed, heading and altitude, and records walks, hikes, runs and rides as workouts with their route in the Health app and as trips in Vane on the iPhone.

How does Vane's speed alert work?

You choose a speed and Vane buzzes when you pass it. It does not rely on a road speed-limit database, which is a common source of wrong limits in other apps. The speed alert is part of Vane Pro.

Does Vane collect my location?

No. Everything Vane records stays on your device, or in your own iCloud if you turn on sync. Vane sends only anonymous diagnostic reports, never your position or trips, and they can be turned off.
