Vane

A speedometer, compass and altimeter for iPhone and Apple Watch — built to keep reading when the satellite signal does not.

Most navigation apps go blank in a tunnel, a car park or a steel-framed building. Vane falls back to the phone's own motion and pressure sensors, so speed, heading and altitude carry on rather than freezing at the last known value.

What it does

Speed — from GPS where available, from motion where it is not.
Compass — true and magnetic heading, with a bearing lock.
Altimeter — barometric altitude, and cabin pressure in flight.
Trips — a mileage log, route maps, and GPX import and export.
Apple Watch — the same instruments on the wrist, sensors running with the screen off.

Privacy, briefly

Vane has no accounts, no servers and no analytics. It makes no network requests of its own. Every reading it takes stays on your device.
