Common questions

Speed or heading reads zero, or does not move

Check that Location Services is enabled for Vane in Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services, and that Motion & Fitness access is granted. Vane needs both: the first for satellite positioning, the second for the fallback that keeps it working without a signal.

The compass points the wrong way

Magnetic heading is affected by nearby metal and magnets — phone cases with magnets and car mounts are the usual culprits. Move the phone away from the mount and, if the reading stays wrong, calibrate by moving the device in a figure-eight.

Altitude looks wrong

Barometric altitude measures air pressure, which changes with the weather as well as with height. Vane shows change in altitude accurately; absolute height needs a reference, which is why the app lets you set one.

Automatic drive recording is not catching my trips

It requires the Always location permission, so the app can notice a drive starting while it is closed. In Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Vane, choose Always.

Restoring a purchase

Open Vane, go to the upgrade screen and choose Restore Purchases. Your purchase is tied to your Apple Account, so it restores on any device signed in to it.

Refunds

Purchases are handled entirely by Apple, so refunds go through Apple rather than through us — visit reportaproblem.apple.com.
